Notes: Cassie’s Cafe, the local diner in Roxbury, NY, opens at 6 a.m. The morning coffee crew rolls in around 7:30 to have muffins, egg sandwiches and coffee, and to talk about . . . golf, mostly. Eva and Bob work the tables, and Cassie is in the kitchen.
SOGS #7: Waterfall by Night
Date recorded: August 6, 2013
Time: 11:15 pm
Location: 42°15’19.37″N, 74°35’56.05″W
Notes: Turn off State Highway 30, and scurry down a steep hill. Walk along the rocks, following the sounds of rushing water. My fellow artist in residence, Sybille, and I visited at night to hear the sounds in the dark.
SOGS #6: Picking Blueberries with Ji
Date recorded: August 5, 2013
Time: 8:30 am
Location: 42°23’32.58″N, 74°33’47.28″W
Notes: Ji is Madalyn’s mom, and she lives on the farm during the summer. She is an expert cook and kimchi maker, and keeps the farm house running. On Monday we went to the Blue Sky Farm to pick blueberries.
This sog is better listened to on speakers, not headphones. These blueberries are loud when they drop in the pail.
SOGS #5: Bunnies
Date recorded: August 4, 2013
Time: 4:30 pm
Location: 42°16’5.89″N, 74°34’41.89″
Notes: Yeah, yeah . . . bunnies are adorable. These four munched, groomed and fought over carrots (not kidding) for an hour in the yard on a Sunday afternoon. From a sound meditation perspective, this was my best sogs yet. I was didn’t want the bunnies to jump out of their pen, so I was very alert. And a more attuned listener.
